The facts about bats

Bats are a widely misunderstood species that has been shrouded in folklore, superstition and fear for thousands of years. The fascinating truth is they are the world's only nocturnal, flying mammal. There are about 900 species that can be found worldwide and they will typically be described as either colonizing bats or solitary bats.

Species of colonizing bats will roost in man-made structures and often have 2 roosting sites in the same structure or structures close to each other. One site will be located in an area that has the hotter temperature for hibernation and roosting in the spring and fall, while the other roosting site will be in a cooler part of the structure for the summer weather.
